summer wedding fun

Last Friday evening I had the honour of watching one of my dear friends get married! It was a perfect day, the sun was shining, the sky was clear and the early evening wedding was simply lovely. My date for the evening – bff/roommate/soulmate, Mr. Alexander Brown, looked dapper and was better dressed than I (wearing a stunning cream Marc Jacobs jacket and J. Crew pants).

One of my favourite things about going to an event like this is putting together my outfit. This one came together REALLY last minute, but I could not have been happier with the results. Here are all the sartorial details:

Cream satin blouse – vintage
I salvaged this from the fabric scraps bin at a thrift store back in the winter. 100% satin & made in Canada. Such a good find.
Pale purple, textured full skirt – H&M [$39.95]
I found saw this and H&M a couple weeks before the wedding. Wasn’t sure about it so I didn’t buy it and then a few days later, when I couldn’t get it out of my head, I raced back hoping it was still available in my size.
Raw silk flower pin – I can’t remember, bought it years ago
I threw this into my bag at the last minute since it matched the shirt, and it was the finishing touch that made the whole look work so well!
Brushed gold / nude suede strappy sandals – ALDO [$80]
I had other shoes picked out but they weren’t perfect. I found these beauties on my lunch break the day before the wedding.
Burgundy velvet ribbon – Fabric Land [$6.70 for 1 meter]
I bought this 3 hours before the wedding… while I was already fully dressed in the rest of my outfit, and in need of a waistband to match my lips and nails. It was the only burgundy ribbon they had… it was the right width & it matched perfectly. Meant to be.
Lips – Diva by M.A.C.
Tip: dark, dramatic lipstick is always best in a matte finish, and it’s always good to keep the rest of your makeup minimal so as to not look too overdone.
Nails – William Tell Me About by OPI
